About the Convention

The Northern National Collectors’ Convention (Northern National) will take place inside the Augustus Tower at Caesars Windsor, September 29-October 1, 2023, in tandem with the Windsor Fan Experience (WFX). The inaugural show will be billed as Northern National presents Windsor Fan Experience.

The Northern National will have all the accents of a traditional card expo but will more importantly enable the Trading Card Game (TCG) community (inclusive of brands ranging from Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Disney Lorcana, and Dragon Ball Z) to have a national presence in Canada. Inclusive of WFX, it will be a hybrid convention that has all the trimmings of a pop culture event with celebrities, athletes, and much more.

The show is led by local Windsorite and lifelong Riverside resident, Jeremy Renaud, collaborating with an amazing organizing committee who have worked together on events across Canada and the US.

Renaud launched the inaugural Northern National in his hometown of Windsor, Ontario as a silent nod to the birthplace where his passion for both collecting and the industry started.

Though the inaugural Northern National will take place in Windsor, Ontario, the show will be moved to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in 2024 with the potential opportunity to setup on a quadrennial rotational cycle to other markets across Canada. The Windsor Fan Experience will then remain in the local area as a legacy of the Northern National in the community where it was launched.

About the Promoter

Jeremy Renaud is a lifelong collector and fan of pop culture who grew up in Windsor, Ontario. His introduction into the industry began when he worked on Windsor ComiCon, ascending the ranks to General Manager of that show while serving as an Assistant General Manager of several Ontario Collectors Conventions and the world’s largest fan-run Transformers convention (TFcon), with conventions across Canada and the US. During this time, he was appointed General Manager of Canada’s largest sport card and collectibles show, the Sport Card & Memorabilia Expo (SCME), which takes place twice a year in Toronto, Ontario, and recently expanded to Edmonton, Alberta. He also represented Ultra Pro International at the recent National Sports Collectors Convention in New Jersey, USA.

During his time at SCME, Renaud monitored trends across the US and identified a lack of presence for the Trading Card Game (TCG) community in Canada at the national level prompting him to create a forum via the Northern National. Utilizing relationships built with brands, distributors, and dealers across Canada and the US, Renaud looks forward to creating memorable experiences for TCG fans, from beginner to advanced.

Renaud is a professor of sport and recreation management at St. Clair College and a former esports coordinator at the University of Windsor. His diverse background in the traditional sport world includes working in amateur, collegiate, and professional sport including the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) Department of Athletics and Special Olympics Canada. More recently, Renaud led Dodgeball Canada’s National Teamsto the World Dodgeball Championships, where six squads brought home three medals (two Gold and one Bronze) plus 4th, 6th, and 7th first-ever international appearances in both the foam and cloth disciplines.

In his spare time, Renaud volunteers in his community, currently with the Riverside Neighbourhood Watch, and is helping to build the Riverside Community Collaborative. He also ran for City Council (Ward 6) during the recent 2022 Municipal Elections. He enjoys spending time with his partner, Jennifer, and his son Ryder (eight) who is an avid gamer, die-hard fan of Naruto, and Pokemon collector. Renaud and his son’s favourite character is Charizard.
