APPLICATION FOR 2023 BENEFICIARY STATUS

The Northern National Collectors’ Convention (Northern National) will take place inside the Augustus Tower at Caesars Windsor, September 29-October 1, 2023, in tandem with the Windsor Fan Experience (WFX). The inaugural show will be billed as Northern National presents Windsor Fan Experience.

The Northern National will be equivalent to a traditional card expo but, more importantly, it will enable the Trading Card Game (TCG) community to have a national presence in Canada. Inclusive of WFX, it will be a hybrid convention that has all the trimmings of a pop culture event with celebrities, athletes, and much more.

As part of its mission, the Northern National will seek to leave a legacy to a registered charity in the community where the event is being hosted.

For 2023, Windsor-Essex is the regional community where Northern National will be hosted.

Applicants who apply to become the 2023 beneficiary must read through the following guidelines before applying.

Who We Fund

  • A registered Windsor-Essex charity
  • A registered Windsor-Essex amateur athletic association
  • A First Nation, Inuit, or Metis community/band or registered non-profit organization/charity*

*Organizations, not registered non-profit organizations/charities are still eligible to apply in partnership with a trustee organization that possesses a charitable status.

What category (categories) does your organization support?
Healthy Body
  • We know that children and youth need to understand the basics of movement and activity to be happy and healthy. We focus on increasing physical literacy and levels of physical activity while ensuring youth have a high-quality sport experience within their communities. For Example: A program that utilizes rugby to engage youth, while also having weekly workshops on physical health (nutrition, healthy choices, etc.) would be a fitting example of this impact area.
  • Outcome Measures: Increased physical literacy and physical activity levels. Increased positive healthy behaviors such as eating and sleeping. Increased sense of belonging.
Healthy Mind
  • Physical activity has a positive effect on young people’s brains, improving mental health, and making it easier to think and learn. In addition to getting kids moving, we focus on programming that provides safe physical and psychological spaces and opportunities to belong and foster peer and role-model relationships. For Example: A program that uses yoga to engage youth struggling with mental health issues, or engaging youth in conversations around mental health, coping strategies, and resources would be fitting for this impact area.
  • Outcome Measures: Increased physical activity levels. Increased sense of belonging. Increased resilience.
Ready For School
  • When children and youth have the support and skills they need to stay engaged academically, they have more opportunities for future success. We focus on providing opportunities to integrate sport and academics. For Example: A program that uses soccer to engage youth in S.T.E.M. curriculum would be fitting for this impact area.
  • Outcome Measures: Increased physical activity levels. Increased academic engagement (subject matter knowledge, attendance, attitude towards school). Increased sense of belonging. Increased social capital.
Ready For Work
  • Sport and physical activity are powerful tools to teach the skills required to gain meaningful employment. We focus on providing opportunities for job-readiness through training that combines classroom and sport learning, to help youth gain both hard and soft skills necessary for employment. For Example: A program that uses basketball to teach leadership skills and also provides workshops on resume building and career exploration would be fitting for this impact area.
  • Outcome Measures: Increased physical activity levels. Increased leadership skills. Increased job readiness.
