WOLVERINE CO-CREATOR ROY THOMAS HEADS TO THE NORTHERN NATIONAL
Windsor to Kick Off 50th Anniversary Celebration for Canada’s Most Iconic Superhero!
Windsor, ON. Legendary Comic Creator Roy Thomas will appear at the Northern National Collectors’ Convention at Caesars Windsor from September 29-October 1, 2023. Presented by Brimstone Games, the convention will feature the Cartoon Kingdom Fan Experience.
“I’m tremendously excited to head to Canada, home of the Wolverine!” says Thomas. “I can’t wait to meet with fans from both Canada and the U.S at the Northern National this fall!”
Thomas, the defacto protégé of Stan Lee, has been a writer and editor, primarily for Marvel or DC Comics since being hired by Lee in 1965. He has written many comic series including The Avengers, X-Men, Amazing Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Conan the Barbarian, Star Wars, and more. Thomas worked exclusively for Marvel from 1965 to 80 and served as editor-in-chief from 1972 to 74. At Marvel, he co-created Wolverine, Carol Danvers, Vision, Ultron, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Ghost Rider, Red Sonja, Werewolf by Night, The Defenders, Man-Thing, Havok, Valkyrie, Red Guardian, Adam Warlock, Morbius, the “What If?” series, Daimon Hellstrom, Dane Whitman (Black Knight), and many other characters. In the 1980s he co-wrote screenplays for the films Fire and Ice and Conan the Destroyer (and was a consultant on the first Conan the Barbarian movie) and wrote some live and animated TV shows including The New Fantastic Four, Plastic Man, Thundarr the Barbarian, GI Joe, Xena: Warrior Princess and Conan the Adventurer (live and animated).
Thomas currently edits the award-winning comics-history magazine Alter Ego, writes online adventure comic strips for Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., and occasionally writes for Marvel Comics. From 2000 to 2019, he ghost-wrote the Spider-Man newspaper comic strip for Stan Lee, and wrote for the German publisher Taschen, authoring the Humongous books 75 Years of Marvel: From the Golden Age to the Silver Screen (2014) and The Stan Lee Story (2018). He has written and selected material for many other comics-related volumes, including for PS Artbooks, Titan Books, Chartwell Books, DK Publishing, Abrams, and the Folio Society. He received many fan and pro awards in the U.S. and abroad and was elected to the Will Eisner Hall of Fame in 2011 and into the Harvey Awards Hall of Fame in 2022.
Thomas can be followed on the Roy Thomas Appreciation Board on Facebook, managed by John Cimino. He is married to Dann Thomas, with whom he has collaborated on comics. They live in rural South Carolina amid a menagerie of boisterous beasts. Visit The Roy Thomas Database to see all his creations and contributions to the comic industry.
“I’m exceptionally grateful that Roy selected Windsor for this extremely rare appearance,” says Northern National President Jeremy Renaud. “He is an amazing talent and a true comic legend. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and a must-see for fans of all ages.”
Thomas will be at the convention Sept 29 from 2 to 8pm and Sept 30 from 10am-6pm. Autographs, selfies, and photos can be purchased. A commemorative Wolverine VIP Experience will also be available for sale with details coming later this fall. Fans will be invited to make donations to the Hero Initiative Charity at Thomas’ table per each visit.
